A new Sonic Experience

Did you know that the technology has given us the possibility to recreate the 3-dimensional physical sonic room virtually? We have developed an app with wich we can produce virtual sonic experiences in 3 dimensions. It means that you with your mobile phone (and our app) can move around in a 3-dimensional virtual world where the sounds not only are heard from left and right but also from the front and back and from below and above you. It is hard to imagine before you have tried it.

The idea behind City Sounds

City Sounds is a project that creates unique sonic experiences with the help of mobile devices such as your cell phone. We have recently created an app and are now producing a lot of interesting content that we hope you will like too.

I have always been fascinated by the way the music in particular but also sound in general affect our mood. So when I discovered that there actually are scientists working on recreating sonic experiences in a 3 dimensional virtual world I was hooked and had to learn more. And it is really true. It’s the results of many years of research that finally makes it possible. The way we experience sound and listen is not a new subject of research but only resently has it been possible to recreate the 3 dimensional room in a virtual world. Terms like 3D-sound and binaural recordings aren’t new in the world of research either but the technology and research has now reached a point where the rest of us can gain access to this knowledge and enjoy these 3D sonic experiences.

Sonic experiences, culture and history

Our aim with City Sounds is to create sonic experiences. It can be everything from artistic experiences to the more informative experiences based on communication of knowledge about our own history and culture. Our name is “City Sounds” but we don’t restrict our selves to initiate projects within the space of the city. All our current and future projects will all have the sonic experiences bound to geographically selected locations – it works everywhere the GPS does. Our application works when it is connected to the GPS and with the help of the compass and other sensors in the mobile device. You can read more below.

The Royal Library Garden

The Royal Library Garden is a unique spot centrally placed on Slotsholmen in Copenhagen. It lies between Christiansborg Castle and the Royal Library. You have to know that it is there in order to see and experience it. We have made our pilot project in these beautiful surroundings where you both can get a musical experience and hear more about the garden and it’s history and cultural landmarks.

From arsenal to cultural oasis

Few places in Copenhagen exudes so much culture and history as this garden. We have chosen to tell stories about the garden and its landmarks – from Christian IV made his arsenal to this peaceful spot it is today. As a finishing touch, composer and musician Pernille Bévort has composed a piece of music for the garden. It is named “Marveling Delight” and can be heard in the garden where you can interact with the music and move around between the instruments. You can hear the composition in its entirety here on the page below.
